Allergy-Friendly Festivities: Creating Christmas Treats for Tiny (and not-so-tiny) Tummies! ๐๐ช
So, let's talk about the merry magic of Christmas treatsโฆ often full of chocolate, whipped cream, roasted nuts. AMAZING! Unless you have a little one with a checklist of allergies.
Our one year old is allergic to milk, eggs, sesame and nuts, making the classic holiday goodies a bit of a minefield. Although sheโs still a bit small to understand whatโs happening this year, we've dived into the world of allergen-friendly treats, to make sure she doesn't miss out.
If you've got someone in your life with dietary requirements, these treats are a winner for everyone. Just a little reminder before we sprinkle the Christmas cheer: always double-check those ingredient labels to keep the festivities safe for everyone.
Dairy-Free Hot Chocolate Bliss โ๐ซ
One of our favourite Christmas traditions is to drive around looking for Christmas lights - we always take a flask of hot chocolate and marshmallows (of course!) This year weโve found a couple of alternatives for E that are dairy, egg and nut free:
Option 1: Chocolate Oatly milk - super simple, all you need to do is heat it up, add marshmallows if you like.
Option 2: Iโve been so impressed with the OMV range in Asda - their hot chocolate powder, mixed with your dairy free milk of choice is great!
Rice Krispie Radiant Reindeers๐ฆ๐ฌ
We made a Rice Krispie traybake using this vegan recipe. To transform the sticky Rice Krispie traybake into Radiant Reindeers we cut the traybake into rectangles, added a raspberry nose, eyes, and candy cane antlers. It's not just a snack; it's easy, fun, and totally allergen-friendly.
Fruit Platter Christmas Tree Extravaganza ๐๐
Let's jazz up snack time with a fruit platter in the form of a Christmas tree. Green grapes as the tree, orange segments for the star and tinsel, and a mix of blueberries and raspberries as baubles. Have fun with it and use whatever fruit you have in the house. It's a fruity masterpiece that brings the joy of the season and is the perfect centrepiece for a Christmas buffet.
Santa Sleighs Take Flight ๐ท๐ฆ
Create some mini sleighs fit for Santa! Using some of the Rice Krispie traybake (recipe above) cut into small rectangles, paired with candy canes and topped with a NOMO reindeer. It's a sleigh ride of flavours that even Santa would envy.
Vegan Gingerbread Extravaganza ๐ชโจ
Gingerbread! A Christmas staple and our 4-year-old's absolute favourite treat all year round, so we had to find a good allergy friendly option. This recipe has been a hit for us this year. Get creative โ cut them into the classic gingerbread man shape, or use different sized star cutters to stack them into a 3D Christmas tree. Versatile and delicious.
